The Malta Merchant Shipping Directorate has further consolidated Malta’s standing as a proactive and forward-looking maritime flag State through the introduction of Yachting Notice 16. This new framework establishes Non-Mandatory Safety Guidelines for Pleasure Yachts under 24m hull length, accompanied by an optional certification regime, both of which came into force on 1 June 2026 on a voluntary basis. This initiative reflects Malta’s continued commitment to promoting high standards within the yachting sector while maintaining the flexibility and commercial attractiveness that has long characterised the Malta flag. By proactively introducing proportionate and practical safety measures, Malta once again demonstrates leadership in anticipating industry needs and aligning with evolving international expectations.
