Greek Law Firm Moussas & Partners Contributes to Global Arbitration Review – Challenging and Enforcing Arbitration Awards 2025

Moussas & Partners contributed to the “Challenging and Enforcing Arbitration Awards 2025” Guide, issued by the Global Arbitration Review (GAR), the leading resource on international arbitration news and community intelligence.

Nicholas Moussas, together with Christina Grigoriadou and Iliana Moussa, co-authored the chapter for Greece, looking closely at the challenges raised on arbitrability and public policy grounds before national courts in the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards and how these concepts are interpreted and applied in practice, highlighting legal developments. The chapter confirms that Greek arbitration law is aligned with international standards and offers a balanced framework for both enforcement and review.

Through a practical questionnaire our experts share their in-depth knowledge on local approach and requirements relating to the enforcement and the challenge of arbitration awards in Greece. Must an award take a particular form? Are there provisions governing retractation or revision of an award? What is the effect of a setting-aside application? What challenges are available? Is there a time limit for applying for the recognition and enforcement of an arbitral award? What kinds of assets can be attached within Greece? Are interim measures against assets available? Are assets belonging to a foreign state immune from enforcement? May property belonging to persons subject to national or international sanctions be attached? Our arbitration experts answer these and many other practical questions.
