Asters has been shortlisted for the Financial Times (FT) Innovative Lawyers Europe 2025 Awards in the category 'Innovative Lawyers in Science and Technology' for its pivotal role in a landmark project for Shark Robotics.
The project, titled 'Saving Lives with Innovation: How Legal and Technological Expertise is Transforming Ukraine's Emergency Response Capabilities', stipulates the delivery of 40 AI-controlled Colossus firefighting robots to Ukraine's Emergency Service to enhance the safety of firefighters and protect the critical infrastructure.
Asters served as the legal advisor for the project, providing strategic counsel, navigating an untested regulatory landscape, and securing governmental approvals under a newly introduced intergovernmental grant mechanism — the first of its kind ratified during the full-scale war in Ukraine.
Tetiana Tyshchenko, Partner at Asters and a key figure in the project's implementation, comments: 'It is a double honour to be involved in such a significant project and to receive recognition for its guidance from FT Innovative Lawyers. Shark Robotics' Colossus robots, famed for their role in Notre-Dame rescue, provide life-saving remote control capabilities, functioning up to 12 hours in extreme conditions. Their ability to detect fire and human presence makes them especially helpful in dangerous ‘double-tap’ missile strike zones. Beyond the technological achievement, this project sets a legal infrastructure to be used for similar projects under grant mechanism in the country.'
The award winners will be announced in London on 18 September 2025.
