Legalink General Meeting in Athens: A Powerful Exchange of Legal, Business, and Global Perspectives

The event, hosted by Moussas & Partners, opened with a vibrant Seminar hosted by the Legalink Women in Law Group, led by Tania Rahmany (Hassans, Gibraltar) and Carla Leandro (Sérvulo & Associados, Portugal). The session welcomed distinguished guest speakers Spyridoula Megalokonomou (Metlen Energy & Metals) and Mafalda Mascarenhas Garcia (IBM), who shared impactful lessons from their professional journeys. A highlight of the seminar was the panel “Why Elevating Women in Law Makes $ense?”, which examined how inclusive business models drive both equity and profitability in law firms. The discussion featured a truly global panel of Legalink members and underscored Legalink’s commitment to promote diversity and excellence in the profession.

The General Meeting continued with a keynote address by Mr. Evangelos Venizelos, a leading figure in Greek political and legal life. A former Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Venizelos offered a compelling talk titled "Lessons from the Greek Crisis and Recovery." Drawing on his deep experience as both a statesman and constitutional law professor, he shared insights into the legal and economic strategies that helped navigate Greece through its sovereign debt crisis. His reflections sparked a lively Q&A and reminded members of the essential role of legal professionals in guiding national resilience.

Further exploring Greece’s economic landscape, Marinos Giannopoulos, Ph.D, CEO of Enterprise Greece SA, delivered a presentation on “The Investment Landscape in Greece – Opportunities and Financing Tools.” Dr. Giannopoulos provided a strategic overview of the sectors, incentives, and tools shaping Greece’s foreign direct investment climate. His insights helped frame current opportunities for cross-border transactions and sparked valuable exchanges among members from both investment-heavy and emerging jurisdictions.

One of the standout sessions of the meeting was the panel on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), moderated by Legalink Chairman Christopher Trowbridge (Bell Nunnally & Martin LLP, USA). The panel featured members from Canada, the USA, the Netherlands, Brazil, South Korea, and the UK, each offering regional perspectives on how trade policy, regulation, and global economic shifts are reshaping the FDI landscape. Topics ranged from U.S. tariffs and EU regulatory reforms to the strategic positioning of countries like Brazil and South Korea in the current geopolitical context.

The programme also featured a highly engaging session on Mediation as an Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanism, led by Nicholas Moussas, Managing Partner of Moussas & Partners. Nicholas explored the legal and practical dimensions of mediation, underlining its importance in today’s international legal environment. He offered critical reflections on the existing legal frameworks in Greece and other jurisdictions, prompting a dynamic discussion among members on best practices, legislative gaps, and practical challenges in using mediation as a primary resolution method.

Legalink extends its deepest thanks to Moussas & Partners for their outstanding hospitality, and to all the speakers, moderators, and participants who contributed to an event rich in ideas, dialogue, and connection. Athens provided not only a stunning setting but also a meaningful backdrop for Legalink’s mission of global collaboration and legal excellence.
